About Fortis Malta

The Bank commenced operations from Malta on 8 January 1999 after obtaining a banking licence granted on 16 September 1998.

The licence was issued by the Central Bank of Malta (CBM) as the Competent Authority appointed in terms of the Banking Act 1994.

This licence was replaced by the amended one issued on 1 December 2005 by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) which became the Competent Authority in terms of Article 3(1) of the Banking Act 1994.

The Bank is a fully owned subsidiary of Fortis Holding Malta Ltd. while Fortis Holding Malta Ltd. is owned by Fortis Holding Malta BV. Fortis Bank SA/NV owns 100% of Fortis Holding Malta BV.

The initial authorised share capital of the Bank was US$30,000,000 (thirty million United States Dollars) and the initial paid up share capital of the Bank was US$6,000,000 (six million United States Dollars).

The Bank increased its authorised share capital to US$70,000,000 (seventy million United States Dollars) and its issued share capital to US$45,000,000 (forty five million United States Dollars).
